Milisav Savić piled up the places from our epic poetry. The route led him from Skadar to Thessaloniki, from Pirlitora on Durmitor to Miroč mountain, from Hilandar to Prilep, from Kosovo to Romania, from Ravni Kotar to Kupinovo in Srem, from Moštanica in Bosanska Dubica to Mačva, from Vršac to Rudnik, from Ravanica to Devič, from Žabljak on Skadar lake to Rača, from the Holy Trinity in Pljevlja to Ozren near Zvornik… He managed to find most of the famous epic topons, some of which, like the Janja church in Stari Vlah or the town of Leđan, were on the trail. Poetry and reality often coincided, but they also dissolved. Epic Serbia is wonderful and beautiful, but it is inseparable from the real one. Of the many epic castles, cities and monasteries, there are only crumbs, in songs they shine and shine in full size and splendor.
Savić also searched for the portraits of our most famous epic heroes (Saint Sava, Nemanja, Prince Lazar, Princess Milica, Rade Oblačić, Marko Kraljević, King Vukašin, Emperor Dušan, Stefan Lazarević, Vuk Branković), painted on icons and frescoes in Koporin, Dobrun , Karan, Priboj bath, Rudenica, Veluć, Kalenić, Ravanica, Manasija, Dečani, Gračanica, Pećka Patriarchate, Prilep, Hilandar, Ježevica and other monasteries.
The latest Savić book is not just a description of the journey through the real and mythical areas of the Serbian epic, it is also an exciting story, with lucid comments, about our most beautiful folk songs, from the first recorded to the Vuk’s.
The book is illustrated with over 600 photographs in color, photo by the author.
